Resistant bands are one of the most popular fitness tools for home workouts, therapist, and those who travel. They can be used for a large variety of exercises and workouts.

Exercise bands are also useful for rehabilitation and recovery.

They are popular because of how versatile, lightweight and cost effective they are. There are 100’s exercises that you can do with fitness bands from strength training exercises to rehab exercises.

They come in a variety of colors which differentiate the degree of tension or resistance. The colors can range greatly depending on the brand but commonly the colors are yellow, blue green, red, purple, gold, and black (listed form lightest to strongest resistance).

The different types of Resistant Band

1. Flat and Thin Resistance Bands/Pull up Resistance Bands – You could easily identify these by their length, which is usually four feet. If you want to perform exercises that focus on your ankles or lower body, then purchasing these resistance bands would be ideal. They’re also called pull-up bands because they are used to assist you when performing pull-ups. You can use them to support you as you pull your body up by tying them on the bar. The amount of resistance you can get from this band depends on its thickness. Thicker bands offer greater resistance and are also color coded to easily identify the resistance.

2. Fit Loop Bands – When you first see these mini resistance bands (frequently called “mini bands”) you may think that it wouldn’t be very effective. However, when you incorporate these mini bands in to your workout, you will see how this simple elastic band will make your routine a lot better and intense. What I love about this type of resistance bands is that they are so versatile. They’re so small that you can literally put them in the pocket of your pants. These are often used for stretching, rotator cuff exercises, ankle pulls, and leg workouts. You may also often see these in rehab centers with physical therapist.

3. Handle Tube Resistance Bands – This one is characterized by its style of construction, which seems to be heavier. It’s normally made from tough latex rubber that has hard plastic or nylon handles on both ends in order to secure gripping. The range of this type of resistance band is pretty impressive, and you can definitely get a decent workout for both lower and upper parts of your body. A handled resistance band can give you a gym-quality strength workout practically anywhere.

4. Clip Tube Resistance Bands – You may think this one is the same as the previous one we talked about, but this comes with more accessories: ankle cuffs together with the plastic handles at both ends. The common material used in making clip tube resistance bands is rubber latex. This material gives you a lot of options of how you can use it. As its name suggests, you can easily clip this resistance bands anywhere else, if you no longer want to use the handle that comes with it. It means you can use this type of resistance band on its own or hook it up somewhere else like a door. You can also add bands together for more resistance.

5. Figure 8 – Resistance Bands – Just like the mini bands, Figure 8 Resistance Bands are normally shorter than the tube resistance bands mentioned, but unlike the mini bands, they have handles at both sides. These handles make gripping easier, and they also help in protecting the bands from the weight of your feet, when you perform leg exercises. Since figure 8 resistance bands tend to be smaller than the typical resistance bands, they are ideal for doing upper-body workouts with a limited variety of motion.

6. Bungee Style Resistance Band: These bands are normally used by athletes during training but not limited to athletes. They are usually attached to a person then held on by another person, weight, or parachute on the other end. This helps create power, explosiveness, and strength for the trainee.

Regardless of which resistance bands you choose, one thing is for sure, they are beneficial and convenient equipment for working out, and they are definitely worth the investment. In order to choose your bands, you must first understand your goals and type of exercises you are wanting to perform. You may need to get a variety of bands in order to reach your training goals.
